Överkirke Beach
Överkirke Beach, a.k.a. Everkirke Beach, is a coastal area between Limo Beach and Ruhnu Outcrop on the east coast of Ruhnu. The coastal terrace that surrounds the beach on the land side is not very high, averaging at 0.5-1 m, the height decreasing the further down south-east one goes. Base has disappeared from the coastal terrace and it has been replaced by thick red sand clay moraine. The terrace between Överkirke and Austerkeld is subject to coastal erosion from the sea only during flow, storms and when strong winds are blowing in mostly from the north. Because of this, grass can grow on the terrace slope and then it can be uncovered again during a strong storm, as it happened in the beginning of the 1990s. The beach is flat but narrow in this area and it is covered in mostly well-rounded crystal cobblestones washed out from sediments of the Quaternary Period and in chunks of sandstone and aleurolite carried here from Flisbacka; in between those, sand can be found. Many trees that have fallen due to storm erosion can also be found on the coastal terrace.
The beach is included in the Ruhnu special conservation area.
