Collective Farms on Ruhnu
In 1949 collective farm Ruhnu was established. Life conditions on the island started to improve in 1951, when a collective fishing farm Kommunismi Majak (The Beacon of Communism) was established. Kihnu-Ruhnu games were the biggest cultural event of 1965–71. In November 1969 major storm ravaged the island and destroyed Ringsu port facilities. In 1970 collective fishing farm The Beacon of Communism was liquidated. In 1971–73 Ruhnu island was part of the Pärnu district collective fishing farm Audruranna and in 1973–87 collective fishing farm Fisherman of Pärnu.
