Distinguished guests on Ruhnu

On 7 July 1921 the head of the Estonian state, State Elder Konstantin Päts stayed on Ruhnu island. The goal of the visit was to calm the people of Ruhnu wanting to secede Estonia (see joining Ruhnu with Estonia). The State Elder gave Ruhnu his picture as a present. On 12 July 1992, the Swedish archbishop Nathan Söderblom visited Ruhnu. On 3 July 1924 the Swedish coast guard ships under the leadership of Commander Henrik Gisiko visited Ruhnu. In the summer of 1935 the Swedish coast guard ships ahead with the ironclad battleships Gustav V and Sverige visited Ruhnu under the leadership of Admiral Tamm. Prince Bertil and future state marshal Stig Ericson were also on board. On the 20 August 1937 the Estonian head bishop Hugo Rahamägi arrived on the island to participate in the 300th anniversary celebration of the old wooden church. The world´s biggest sailing ship Krusenstern visited the island in 1977. 202 cadets visited the grave of the Unknown Soldier and gave the people of the island a concert. On 25 August 1988 president Lennart Meri visited the island. His goal was to get acquainted with the life and problems of the small island and to sightsee on Ruhnu island. On 10 July 2003 president Arnold Rüütel visited the island in the course of a Euro information campaign and on 18 June 2006 president Toomas Hendrik Ilves gave the island a visit.
