Rein, Harry-Johannes
Harry-Johannes Rein (21. VII 1926, Tallinn), minister; the oldest active minister with a congregation in the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (EELC).
Studied theology in the EELC Institute of Theology 1964–75, defended his Master’s degree in 1979 and worked at the Institute of Theology as a docent of general church history.
Was ordained as minister 16. XI 1967. Served Kursi congregation 1965–75 and Harju-Jaani John the Baptist congregation 1976–96. Also served Laiuse and Jõelähtme congregations as a custodian minister. 1982–96 was dean of the Ida-Harju deanery. Since 1996 minister Rein has been serving the Ruhnu St. Magdalene’s congregation.
On Ruhnu, the purple oval glass window with the Lamb of God (1996) in the old wooden church, the rose window (1999) and pictures with Christian symbols in the low wall niches of the nave in the new church have been made to his designs. Compiled and designed the Ruhnu calendar and 2004 Catechism that contains scripture texts on important subjects in Christians’ path of life.
