1941 rebellion on Ruhnu
In 8 July 1941 Ruhnu residents disarmed Soviet soldiers occupying the island and sent them to Pärnu prison. Estonian Republic rule had been restored on the island. On 6 August Soviet landing force arrived on the island. Revolt leaders were arrested, deported to Kuressare and executed. There is a memorial stone to the Ruhnu revolt leaders in Kudjape Cemetry.
