Ruhnu fungi observation area
Ruhnu fungi observation area. In 2000, a permanent dead wood and saproxylic fungi observation area was created on Ruhnu, its territory is 1,500m2. The area is located east of Valgi in a natural forest with a contrastive microrelief; this natural forest is in itself a calla growth habitat type of black alder marsh forest. Data was collected from the observation area for four years. In 10 years time changes will be compared on a yearly basis. During the research period, 29 species of fungi were identified in the observation area, many of them rare in Estonia, for example Resinicium pinicola and Aegerita candida.
In 2003, 5 distinctive virgin forest species were indentified: Ceriporia reticulata, Phlebia subcretacea, Pycnoporellus fulgens, Physisporinus vitreusand Skeletocutis lenis.
