Ruhnu landing places
Landing place on Ruhnu island. Due to Ruhnu island's coast being very shallow, the island lacked of suitable embankments and harbours for bigger ships. With the word harbour (hamma in Ruhnuswedish language), the people of Ruhnu marked the landing places of fishing boats between the stone rows. One of the landing places was near Pärsi (Pärs hamma). There was also an anchorage for sailing ships outside Pärsi near the cape of Pärsi about 400 metres from the mainland (Pärs joma). With the 2005 storm basis of buildings came out from the sand of the cape of Pärsi which is related to the island´s first lighthouse (see a settlement with the ruins of a lighthouse at Pärsi). The landing places were also located in the island´s east side on Limo beach and in the southeast on the cape of Ringsu. The landing places located on the top of Kuunsi (Kuns hamma) are also used nowadays. All those places had probably also net and boat sheds or fisherman´s houses along the beach which can also be seen on the older maps. The landing places of Kuunsi are under protection as historical monuments, the landings place of Pärsi and Limo beach are objects of heritage culture.
